Jun. 15, 2002 Bandwidth = The size of a rubber band lying on the table. No, no, just kidding. Bandwidth typically refers to the amount and speed of information that can be sent between computers. If might help if you think about the connection between computers as a big pipe. When you view web page the computer that it resides on sends the web page down this pipe until it reaches your computer. Now, if others are requesting the same web page then they are all coming down the pipe at the same time. The pipe eventually gets crowded and starts to slow down the speed in which you access the web page. To help alleviate this problem the owner of the web page can add more bandwidth, essentially adding more pipes, or a bigger pipe, for the web pages to travel to yours and other computers.
